But what I love even more about spending a few hours taking photos of tiny hands, tiny feet, and plump baby lips, is taking photos of the beaming, proud parents. I don’t have to give much direction, if any, because they just love and adore their new son or daughter to no end.

You might remember seeing the Brauns on the blog before. I photographed Jake, Theresa, and Hailey when they were a family of three last summer at their Orchard Park home. We did the same thing for this shoot, only now they’re a family of four.

Before we got started, Ryan mentioned that he wanted to get a few shots with the dog this time. In my head I thought he was talking about a stuffed animal or a toy that Baby C really liked. But no, he really meant the family dog, Samson. He is AWESOME. And Baby C loves him so much. BFFs.

He is also very well-behaved and powered by treats.

Always a treat to see how clients display your photos in their home. Yay for ordering prints and getting those digital images off the computer screen.

Then we headed outdoors to enjoy the weather and soak in the sun.

It is very normal for us to spend hours each day just hanging out, swapping stories, eating good food, and laughing until our cheeks hurt. Not much has changed now that we’re older, except that our clan has grown.

Today is the one year anniversary of my maternal grandmother’s passing. I flew out to Los Angeles this past weekend to attend her memorial event and visit my paternal grandparents at the memorial park. It was such a beautiful day.

You may remember seeing these kiddos from a post I wrote last year around this same time.  It seems fitting to share some photos again of the next generation. I love watching them grow.

Thank you to Sam & Anita for sending over these superhero cape & mask sets from their new kids clothing line, Hi for Kids. They are so fun! I secretly wanted to keep one for myself.

Oh, baby, your parents love you so.

It was the most perfect day in a home filled with the most beautiful light. I loved this session so much. You can feel how much love surrounds this baby and this family.

I had the best time hanging out with the Brauns on Saturday morning/afternoon. Hailey, the darling little girl you see in these pictures, was the best baby. I think SHE had the best time hanging out with her parents Jake + Theresa at Green Lake in Orchard Park, NY, while we roamed around.

We started briefly at the house, where Hailey was all smiles and hamming it up for the camera from the minute I walked in the door. And she has every right to — look at her gorgeous blue eyes and beautiful hair. Those curls!

Less than 100 feet away is Green Lake — lucky for Hailey, I’m sure she’ll be spending many a days at this park while she grows up.

Like I said, all smiles.

Parent/Baby moments melt my heart. And I don’t even have one of my own. But I just can tell how much Hailey is loved.

And this thing she does with her hands? Adorable.

Josh broke the news so matter-of-factly, like it was no big deal. His voice was so calm when he asked us when we’d be coming back to visit Phoenix. “The reason I ask,” he says while gently wrapping his arm around his wife, “is because Maria will look a little different then… She’s pregnant.”

It was so adorable. And then it all made sense to me that Maria wasn’t nursing her usual glass of wine!

You could tell that this huge weight had been lifted; we learned they hadn’t yet told anyone the news because they were waiting for Mother’s Day to share with their friends and family.

After I exploded with excitement — we talked all things baby . . . which doctor, which hospital, names, everything. Josh has a knack for naming things. He is always coming up with unique, interesting names. Mario van Peebles, for example, was the name of his last car.

The pregnancy FLEW by (I’m sure Maria thinks so too) because before I knew it, I received the text welcoming sweet baby Atticus Wayne to the world.

I got to meet Mr. Atticus on a Skype date and boy was he cute. But, it’s nothing like the real deal.

Josh & Maria, I’m so glad we got to visit with you and your little family. We are so lucky to call you guys our friends. Atticus is so charming. Can’t wait to watch him grow!

According to mom, Atticus was a little cranky because he was supposed to go down for his nap. But how could he when his future doctor was in town?

See? No tears.

Probably one of my favorites. His bottom lip kills me. And that he’s having a staring contest with his toy octopus?

He is already learning to roll over.

And already knows how to break hearts.

So so precious.
