30.4 Week Maternity Session – Part I

I’m getting a late start on blogging about my pregnancy, so things are going to be a bit out of order. I have a couple of posts in mind already, such as sharing some of my first / second / third trimester must-haves (I found these posts from other bloggers & friends so helpful).

But first, I want to kick off this little mini series by sharing our maternity photos taken by our very sweet and talented friend Sarah Bridgeman. Originally I thought we would just do newborn photos once the babe was born, but I wanted to document my first pregnancy with photos that weren’t taken on an iPhone.

Since I was going to be in my third trimester entering the fall/winter season here in Buffalo, I knew being outdoors was probably out of the question. With that in mind, I decided that we’d take some very simple, clean, organic photos of Brandon and I to document our journey to become new parents.

It worked out perfectly that Sarah had just sold her lovely home, so most of her things were packed up already, leaving a nice open space and neutral walls for us to shoot in. It also helps that her home was in the perfect position, allowing such beautiful natural light to shine in. At the very last minute, we talked about starting the session off in our pjs. I was on the fence about this at first, but I’m so glad that we did it.

Because let’s face it — this is how pregnant women really spend 90% of their time: in comfy t-shirts and joggers (read: sweat pants).

That said, here is Part I of our session. I’ll share Part II next!

If you’re on the fence about having maternity photos taken, I would definitely recommend doing them. I wasn’t into doing anything bare-bellied or boudoir-esque, or any of those maternity poses you see all over Pinterest. Talk with your photographer and do what you’re comfortable with. You’ll be happy you did when you get your images back. I’ve already sent them all off to be printed at my lab!
